Antiphospholipid antibody and IgG /IgM isotypes of anticardiolipin antibodies by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay were simultaneously performed in 43 patients requested for antiphospholipid antibodies from October to December, 1992. Of the 43
patients,
the results of antiphospholipid antibody, IgG and IgM anticardiolipin antibody were positive in 5 (11.6%), 5(11.6%) and 8(18.6%) patiengs, respectively. Summing up the results, twelve (27.9%) patients were positive for either antiphospholipid or
anticardiolipin antibody and discordant results between the two tests were noted in 8 among them. Of the 11 patients with anticardiolipin antibody, seven were negative for antiphospholipid antibody. Of the 3 patients with IgG anticardiolipin
antibody,
one had a history of thrombosis and anopther had thrombocytopenia. Of the 6 patients with IgM antibody, one had thrombosis and another had thrombocytopenia. This study suggests that anticardiolipin antibody test seems to be more sensitive than
antiphospholipid antibody test and that both tests may be require for the screening of the patients with antiphospholipid syndrome.
